Yamiche Alcindor and Husband Welcome Their Baby Boy After IVF Struggles

NBC News Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and her husband, Nathaniel Cline, are celebrating the birth of their new baby boy.
Alcindor took to her Instagram and Twitter pages to share a sweet photo of the couple’s newborn son Irie, who was born on May 30.
In a statement to “Today,” they shared that their son was born at 1:53 p.m., weighing 5 pounds and 1 ounce.

Yrie was born on Tuesday, May 30th. His name is pronounced "i-ree" — the same pronunciation of the Jamaican saying "Irie," which means "vibes are good & everything is well."

The couple has been open about their years-long path to parenthood, which included Alcindor going through numerous rounds of in vitro fertilization.
“For the past four years, I have been feverishly chasing motherhood — hoping, and praying, and deeply wanting more than anything else in this world to be pregnant and to bring home a healthy baby,” Alcindor wrote in a Today essay about her pregnancy struggles. “All this, while desperately willing my way through rounds and rounds of IVF and pressing forward through wild, rocky news cycles that required me to look and sound calm.”
She added that once she discovered she was pregnant, she was thoughtful about how she wanted to eventually reveal the news. Alcindor explained that she wanted to keep in mind how her announcement could affect other women on their own pregnancy journeys.

“I agonized over sharing this news because I am both deeply grateful for this incredible blessing, and deeply aware of how reading yet another pregnancy announcement might hurt women who are still struggling to become mothers,” she said.
Alcindor said she knew early on that posting a photo to her social accounts with a cheery announcement wasn’t an option.
“I don’t mean to imply in any way that those posts are wrong. In fact, I wish I could genuinely make one of my own,” she continued. “What I mean, though, is that it would not be genuine of me to do that, because I’ve found myself in tears reading those sorts of announcements, feeling agony knowing that unfortunately, that was not my reality.”
Speaking on the birth of their son, Alcindor and her husband told “Today” that their sometimes tough parenthood journey was worth the gift of their son.
“While the journey to get to this moment was tough, it was well worth it as our hearts are full with happiness and love,” Alcindor said..
