Yang, who gained traction as more than an entrepreneur by outlasting some of the more established presidential hopefuls during the 2020 primary, reveals the name of his new political party at the end of his book, Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy, according to Business Insider.
"The dysfunction is going to kill us," Yang reportedly writes of the two-party system. "Worse, there's no reason to think that it will change. The two sides will be trapped in a war that both sides win — they will still be hovering in one of the most affluent areas in the country trading power — but the people will lose."
Yang's book calls out the "duopoly" of the U.S. political framework that pits Democrats and Republicans against one another with each election, claiming the system was not designed to handle the "cascade of crises" the United States has endured recently.
The Forward Party would champion "ranked-choice voting and open primaries," as well as "fact-based governance" and "human-centered capitalism," Yang's book reads. The party will also promote "universal basic income," or UBI — an idea that attracted many of his supporters during the 2020 primary.
After Yang dropped out of the presidential race in February of last year, he set his sights on running for New York City mayor. However, he ultimately dropped out after failing to garner support, coming in fourth in the crowded primary.
Yang's book will release on Oct. 5, according to its publisher Penguin Random House.
Representatives for Yang did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner's request for comment.
