Yankees' Gary Sanchez catches a break as X-rays come back negative

NEW YORK — Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez suffered a contusion to his right index and middle fingers Saturday afternoon against the Rays.

Sanchez, who had been solid through three innings, was clipped in the fourth by Randy Arozarena’s bat. Aaron Boone and a trainer rushed out to check on Sanchez.

The Yankees didn’t pull him then and he stayed in for the remainder of the inning and still hit through his turn in the batting order.

Sanchez was pulled before the start of the fifth and replaced by Kyle Higashioka.

The team announced Sanchez’s X-rays were negative for a break and that he would be day-to-day.
