SNY's Andy Martino will be responding to and breaking down answers to Yankees questions from readers. Here's the latest...

Do you think Carlos Beltran is a legit candidate for manager? — @ajr286

You didn’t specify if this was a Yankees or Mets question (Readers! Specify please!), so I’ll take it as a Yankees question and give an answer that can apply to both.

When the Yankees interviewed Carlos Beltran for the manager position after dismissing Joe Girardi, they did not come away thinking that he was ready for that job. They saw him more as a coach or front office advisor, and a year later hired him for the latter role.

Hard to say what would have changed since, except for their anger over the Astros scandal (Yankees higher-ups do still believe -- accurately -- that Beltran is a good person who ended up, through a perfect storm of factors, in a bad situation).

If this is a Mets question, I would just say that Beltran has been living a life far off the baseball grid over the past few years. There has been no word that he’s eager to jump back into an industry that many of his friends feel singled him out unfairly.

He loves the game and might want to get back in at some point. Steve Cohen or Sandy Alderson should give him a call, though maybe not for the manager job so soon after dismissing Luis Rojas, another first-timer. I just don’t know that Beltran is ready yet to pick up the phone.

The good news is, I hear that between his family and his baseball academy in Puerto Rico, Beltran is living a happy, quiet life these days.
