Yankees' Paxton leaves game with glute tightness

New York Yankees left-hander James Paxton exited Friday's game in Arlington, Texas, against the Rangers for precautionary reasons after one inning due to tightness in his left glute.

Paxton allowed a two-run homer to Danny Santana with two outs in the first and allowed three hits in the inning. He gave up a double to Nick Solak following Santana's homer and appeared uncomfortable while throwing 21 pitches.

As the Yankees batted in the second, television cameras showed pitching coach Larry Rothschild in a conversation with trainer Steve Donohue. Ben Heller replaced Paxton, and the Yankees announced the injury in the top of the fifth.

Before the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the plan was for Paxton to throw four or five innings.

Paxton won a career-high 10 straight starts before Friday and finished his first season with the Yankees by going 15-6 with a 3.82 ERA in a career-high 29 starts. Paxton missed most of May with right knee inflammation.
