Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón puts Venmo payment fans sent him to good use

When fans want to support a cause or want a player to join their team, they go all out.

The New York Yankees did their due diligence this offseason, pining for free-agent pitcher Carlos Rodón to join their team.

As money that Rodón didn't ask for was pouring into a Venmo account, Rodón said he decided to use that money for a good cause.

"We got all that money from Venmo, we took that money and we did something nice for that kid over there," Rodón said. "You asked the question about doing something nice, I should do something nice for the people of New York but they did something nice for me and some kid in the middle of nowhere in Illinois no one knows about. So we had a nice Christmas for him, and my cousin did a few other things for the family."

"So thank you to the fans of New York," Rodón said. "You helped some 15-year-old in Illinois that doesn't really have much and whose house burnt down."

The 30-year-old Rodón signed a six-year, $162 million deal, spent his first seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox, before playing the 2022 campaign with the San Francisco Giants, going 14-8 with 2.88 ERA in 31 starts.
