The Yankees have bolstered their depth ahead of Opening Day, signing Franchy Cordero to a big-league deal. The outfielder will wear #33 and has been added to the active roster.

Cordero's deal will pay him $1 million since he is in the majors.

The 28-year-old had a big spring training for the Orioles before being released. In 18 games, he hit .413/.426/.674 with two homers and four doubles.

Cordero, who has experience playing all three outfield spots, slashed .219/.300/.397 with eight home runs in a career-high 84 games last season for the Boston Red Sox.

That versatility is exactly what Yankees skipper Aaron Boone is hoping Cordero will help improve upon in the Bronx.

"The biggest thing is it’s an opportunity to create some more depth. We like what he brings from the left-side of the plate against righties," Boone said pregame Thursday. "He can play a really good corner outfield and fill-in at first base if you need him."

Cordero is a career .221/.290/.386 hitter in parts of six seasons with the Red Sox, Kansas City Royals, and San Diego Padres.
