Yara Shahidi Calls It Quits On Her Three-Year Relationship: 'I'm Just Taking Some Me Time'
Harvard graduate Yara Shahidi stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show and was asked about her current dating status. Shahidi let out a nervous giggle before revealing she was coming out of a long-term situation.
āSee, I donāt know,ā she said to Barrymore. āI like meeting people. And then the other thing is I just got out of a relationship.ā
The 22-year-old has mastered the art of keeping her love life private, as weāve never publicly seen her with a partner. She also hasnāt disclosed any details about her romantic life until now.
āIām a big commitment person. It was three years. So, I donāt even know what to do with myself. Iām just taking some me time,ā she said. āMy friends and I are calling it selfish season.ā
The topic of love moved on to love at first sight, where Shahidi goes into depth about how her parents met. Her parents never spoke at the party they were both attending, but her mom got a picture of her father.
āShe turns the corner and goes, āoh my god, thatās my husband.ā She says it out loud and then catches herself,ā Shahidi said.
āFriends would come over and look through the phone book to see if they could figure out who this was. When they get in touch, he actually lists everything she had on that night,ā Shahidi said.
Inspired by the story of her parents finding each other from a picture, Barrymore then asked if Shahidi believes love holds the same depth today.
āI mean, I hope itās true. Iām in my mid-twenties. Iām hoping that thatās how it works,ā she said.
The breakup news comes as a surprise after recent rumors linked Shahidi to dating a middle-aged white man on the set of Grown-ish.
āNo, itās not true,ā her co-star Marcus said during a BuzzFeed interview, TheyBF reports.
While Shahidi enjoys her selfish years, who would be an excellent fit for the young star?
