Yarmouth, Falmouth schools close Friday

Nov. 18—Falmouth and Yarmouth schools are closed Friday as police investigate possible threats.

All schools in Yarmouth closed after an online threat, according to school district officials. In an email to parents Friday morning, Yarmouth Superintendent Andrew Dolloff said he received a call from the Yarmouth Police Department that an online threat had been made against the schools.

Dolloff did not say if the threat was against one school or the entire district.

"We are working with YPD to determine the credibility of this threat and the identities of those involved," he said.

Falmouth schools confirmed the closure in a statement Friday, saying the police department received a threat against the schools.

"Out of an abundance of caution, Falmouth schools have been closed for the day to provide the opportunity to investigate this incident more thoroughly. Police are on site, working with school administrators," the announcement said.

"Students are safe, the campus is secure, and public safety is closely monitoring this situation," Police Chief John Kilbride said in the statement. "We will continue to investigate this threat and take appropriate precautions to ensure the campus remains secure."

The threats come after hoax calls about active shooters were reported at 10 Maine schools on Tuesday, causing widespread confusion and anxiety as parents rushed to schools across the state.
