Yasmani Grandal's bad luck may be turning around

DJ SHORT: If you want to pick a candidate for who has had the weirdest season so far, it's almost certainly White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal. His batting average has sat around .100 for weeks. But he's still getting on base with the best of them. He's basically already equaled his walk total from last year in about half the time. And this is someone who already has the reputation as a patient hitter.

As for the batting average, the strikeout rate hasn't been out of line with his career norms. So this has always looked like a case of extraordinarily bad luck. The secondary numbers would appear to back that up, as Grandal's quality of contact remains very good. Grandal homered in back to back games in recent days. So maybe luck is starting to turn a little bit, starting to get back on his side.

Batting average has never been a strength with him, but chances are you're going to be very happy if you were patient with him in mixed leagues. And if you got him in a trade, you're happy there too.
