‘Yearbook challenge’ has Tiktokers reflecting on long-lasting friendships
The “yearbook challenge,” a trend circulating on TikTok, shows groups of friends and how they’ve changed in a given time. Naturally, the trend has made users emotional with how these friendships have withstood the test of time while the individuals have evolved.
Monica (@monicasanluiss) shared her friend group’s rendition of the yearbook challenge.
“Did y’all attend the High School for the Genetically Gifted?”
After just two days of posting, Monica’s video has more than 1.9 million views and 118,100 likes. Commenters voiced their envy at how “genetically gifted” these friends seem and their awe that the friendship has lasted over 12 years.
“How do I join this friend group?” one user wrote.
“i’m more surprised at the fact y’all stayed friends,” another said.
“Did y’all attend the High School for the Genetically Gifted?” someone joked.
In a follow-up video, Monica revealed that they all met in middle school and remain close “no matter how much life changes.”
“when our parents told us the girls we met in middle school would be our friends for life, we didn’t believe them,” she writes. “now we’re 25 & fully understand what they meant.”
Chloe (chlo.333) posted a similar video with her high school friends eight years after graduating.
Similarly, @yamamp4 posted an equally moving video on how their friend group has evolved in the last 20 years.
“20 years later, primary school reunion,” reads the caption.
“I don’t know why these always make me cry,” one user wrote. “Teared up again.”
There’s something incredibly wholesome about friendships that span decades. From adolescence into adulthood, some relationships are meant to go the distance — and this trend is a perfect showcase of that.
