New Year's Eve celebrations ahead in St. Augustine. Here's what you need to know.

St. Augustine Beach will host a fireworks show on New Year's Eve, but the event will be different compared to the city's typical Pier Park celebration.

In years past, the city hosted an event called Beach Blast Off at Pier Park with music, food and vendors. The city won't have a festival in Pier Park this year, but will offer a fireworks show. The city will designate three viewing spots along A1A Beach Boulevard for watching the show, and officials are encouraging people to visit local businesses.

St. Augustine Beach City Manager Max Royle said Beach Blast Off became too large for the city to handle.

"The amount of manpower that was needed to put on the full-blown event was a great deal, both public works as well as law enforcement," Royle said.

But with the change has come the opportunity to host an event that puts more focus on local businesses, he said.

According to a news release from the city, "There will be no festival in Pier Park, and in lieu of having thousands of people in that one small area, people will be able to spread out all along the boulevard and enjoy the fireworks from multiple locations.

"Local businesses will take the place of the many vendors that were crowded into Pier Park. While the city will provide fabulous fireworks show, we encourage people to patronize our businesses for their food, beverages and entertainment."

How to watch St. Augustine's fireworks

The fireworks will kick off at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier at 350 A1A Beach Blvd., according to a city news release. People can watch the fireworks at Pier Park, which is at the same address, and on A Street and 10th Street. On-beach viewing at Pier Park won't be available because of storms and erosion.

Limited shuttle service will be provided from Anastasia Baptist Church at 1650 A1A S. to the three viewing locations. Park-and-walk lots with no shuttle service will be available at City Hall at 2200 A1A S.; Ron Parker Park at 607 Old Beach Road; the shopping center parking lot next to the northwest corner of the Pope Road and State Road A1A intersection; and the YMCA at 500 Pope Road. The YMCA lot will be available after 1 p.m.

People can drive and park on the beach as normal from A Street south.

CLARIFICATION: A previous version of the story incorrectly stated that people could park in the Amici restaurant parking lot at 1915 A1A S. and walk to the fireworks in St. Augustine Beach.
