New Year's resolutions - places to go to fine new hobbies around Ashland

New year, new you.

Although most new year's resolutions tend to be geared toward weight loss, here is a list that includes both getting into shape and other fun activities/hobbies to help hit those 2024 goals.

Tin Can Chandelier - 1258 Franklin Ave., Ashland: Described as a functional work-space for seasoned artists, aspiring artist or just creativity junkies to hang out and learn, teach and share what inspires them. Tin Can Chandelier is an open-spaced barn-like setting.

Among the classes this month are Paint and Wine Workshops, Kids Paint Workshop and Pottery Wheel 101 Workshop. Pricing is between $30 and $35 (plus tax).

CrossFit 419 - 1151 Commerce Parkway, Ashland: For anyone looking to get into a new fitness routinge, CrossFit 419 offers 30- to 45-minute cardio classes that will strengthen, tone and help with weigth loss. Among the classes are: Sweat Class (8:15-9 a.m. Monday-Friday, barbells used for movements; Burn Class (5:15-6 p.m. Monday-Friday) without barbell movements and should include a partner; and Pump Class (6-6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday), a special barbell special that focuses on strength and muscle gain.

CrossFit classes are offered Monday-Saturday; Olympic Lifting is at 7 a.m. Saturdays and is an extra $10 per class.

The Ashland Public Library - 224 Claremont Ave.: Offers events and activities throughout the months. The library has two book clubs that meet once a month − Traveling and Book Tok. Other activities are Story Scribes, craft workshop and bingo. See the Library's calendar for more details.

The YMCA of Ashland - 207 Miller St.: For those looking for less intense workouts and other activities, the YMCA offers classes for children and adults. Among the activities are swimming, gymnastics, dance, martial arts/boxing, adult sports/wellness and youth sports. The center provides a child water program so parents can work out and attend classes. The service is offered every day but Sundays, and is free to members and $3 for non-members.

The Ashland Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center - 527 E Liberty St.: Daily activities like swimming and fitness as well as Wednesday Night Ladies Ministry and Wednesday Night Adult Bible studies. There are stained-glass suncatcher workshops, adult crochet class and basket weaving workshops.
