Yelp ranked the best fried chicken in the nation. And one spot is right here in SLO County

San Luis Obispo County is home to one of the best fried chicken restaurants in the United States, according to a new Yelp review list.

In honor of National Fried Chicken Day on July 6, Yelp assembled a list of the 25 greatest fried chicken restaurants — and one Paso Robles standout nearly cracked the top 10.

Dubs Paso Soul Food Grill came in 12th on Yelp’s rankings, just one spot lower than fellow California favorite Howlin’ Ray’s in Los Angeles.

“This place is what Paso Robles needed!” one Yelp user wrote in their review. “A must try that I highly recommend.”

Another Yelp reviewer called Dubs “by far the best fried chicken I’ve had in SLO County,” praising the restaurant’s greens, black-eyed peas and cornbread.

Another Central Coast fried chicken favorite — Santa Barbara’s Soul Bites — ranked 10th overall on Yelp’s list.

“We got some beers and their chicken fingers with fries — so tasty!” a Yelp reviewer wrote. “I lived in Louisiana for several years and the spiciness of the chicken reminded me of Cajun cuisine.”

Other California restaurants to make the top of Yelp’s list included Sacramento-based Fixins Soul Kitchen, which ranked seventh overall, and Los Angeles’ Le Coupe, which ranked second.

Dubs Paso Soulfood Grill ranked above five other California fried chicken establishments on Yelp’s list: No. 14 Furai Chicken in Garden Grove, No, 15 Southside Station in Berkeley, No. 17 SR’s Fried Chicken in Temple City, No. 19 Lapisara Eatery in San Francisco, and No. 20 Go Go Bird in Culver City.
