Yes, Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright got his City Butcher while rehabbing in Springfield

While on a rehab assignment in Springfield, Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright teased that he would make a stop at City Butcher at some point and he apparently stuck to his word.

Wainwright tweeted on Monday evening that he visited the Springfield BBQ spot while in town for his Wednesday rehab appearance at Hammons Field. He included photos of him with employees of the restaurant along with some photos of ribs.

"Great people making great food!" Wainwright said. "It inspired me to fire up the smoker myself."

Wainwright is still with the Springfield Cardinals but they are on the road this week. He is scheduled to pitch in Tuesday's matchup at Wichita to which he also tweeted that he needed BBQ recommendations while in Kansas.

In his final season of professional baseball, Wainwright made what might have been his final appearance in Springfield last week while rehabbing a groin injury. He has not played at the Major League level yet this year.

At Hammons Field, Wainwright struck out three, allowed four hits and allowed two off a home run in the second. He got more comfortable as the game went on in his first innings of action and finished with 59 total pitches.

Wainwright treated the Spring Birds to steak and lobster following the game and spoke to local media about his love of City Butcher's brisket and ribs. He said he'll do pulled pork sometimes but Wainwright couldn't stop talking about the brisket with the sauce on the side.

Wainwright teased that he'll return to Springfield in the future to visit the restaurant while dropping his kids off at Camp Kanakuk.
