Yes, it's the weekend and it's not raining in North Jersey: See forecast

It may have been sweater weather for North Jersey Saturday, but at least we could leave our umbrellas at home.

Following eight consecutive weekends of rain, the skies cleared for outdoor activities and what's left of leaf-peeping season.

The last dry weekend in North Jersey was during the Labor Day holiday, when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band were holding court at Met Life Stadium while Aaron Rodgers was in Florham Park preparing for his first big game as a New York Jet.

We all know what has happened since then: weekend washouts and the return of Zach Wilson to the Jets' starting lineup.

Meteorologist Gary Martin of the National Weather Service in Mount Holly confirms the nearly two-month stretch of measurable weekend rainfall in Newark and Teterboro.

The wettest weekend last month was Oct. 14-15, when .71 inches fell in Newark and .65 inches fell in Teterboro. The wettest day of the month was Oct. 20 - a Friday - when 1.74 inches fell in Newark and 1.83 inches fell in Teterboro.

September, meanwhile, ended with a storm on Sept. 29-30 that dropped more than 3 inches in some North Jersey towns and caused flash flooding throughout the region. The weekend before, Tropical Storm Ophelia dumped several more inches in some towns.

Overall rainfall for October, however, was only slightly above average, Martin said: 4.02 inches in Newark and 4.48 inches in Teterboro, compared to a regional average of 3.79 inches.

Martin summed up the unusual weather pattern that dropped most of that precipitation on the weekends as "bad luck."

Look for more seasonable brisk temperatures over the next week, Martin said, with slight chances of rain Monday night, Wednesday into Thursday morning and on Friday.

But while the temperatures continue to drop, Martin said we have at least one more week before the first snowflakes of the season are seen.
