YMCA announces opening date for new facility near downtown Salem

Salem YMCA officials have announced via email and social media that the new Withnell Family YMCA will open for business Oct. 20.

The $30.5 million, 51,000-square-foot building at 685 Court St. NE replaces a nearly century-old facility at the same site that was shuttered in 2019.

Hours for the new YMCA near downtown will be 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 1-6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Details are still being finished on the rooftop track, which will open at some point later, as will food service, according to YMCA emails and posts.

Individual memberships for the new Y range from $15 a month for teens ages 13-17 to $50 a month for adults ages 18-64. Family, senior and couple rates also are available, as well as income-based financial assistance for those who qualify.

Visit the YMCA website for details about group fitness classes, pool and gym schedules, and its Play and Learn program for those with family memberships, offering child watch for ages 6 weeks to 9 years.
