Two men have appeared in court charged with setting a man on fire during an attack in York.

Robinson Peter Fitch Binks, 26, and Joshua Anthony Strickland, 29, are alleged to have "sprayed the man with liquid" before setting him alight in Fossway on 19 April.

They appeared at York Magistrates' Court charged with wounding with intent.

Both have been remanded in custody to appear at York Crown Court on 27 May.

The victim suffered serious injuries to his back as a result of the alleged attack.

Mr Strickland is also charged with witness intimidation, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon, after it was alleged he confronted a witness while armed with a metal pole and hammer and threatened to harm him before smashing the rear window of a car.

He faces a further charge of assaulting an emergency worker, for which he will return to York Magistrates' Court on 19 June.
