York County’s newest Harbor Freight has an opening date. Here are the latest details

The new Harbor Freight in York will open May 6.

The 710 Liberty St. East address will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Sundays, when it will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s store No. 29 for the company in South Carolina — Rock Hill and Lancaster each have one — and will employ up to 30 people.

The company announced plans for the store earlier this year. Harbor Freight sells indoor and outdoor tools and equipment. The new store in York will be 15,000 square feet of automotive, power and air tools along with generators, welding supplies, hand tools and shop gear.

Store manager Jeff Young said staff is ready to serve York and surrounding areas.

“We recognize that now, more than ever, our customers depend on us for the tools they need to get the job done at an affordable price,” Young said.

The California company that started in 1977 and opened its first store in 1980 now has more than 1,400 stores and 25,000 employees nationwide. According to the company, Harbor Freight grows at a rate of two new store openings weekly. There are eight Charlotte-region stores in North Carolina, plus the York and Lancaster county sites in South Carolina.
