YORK, Maine — Macy Young, a senior at York High School, has been selected to receive the 2023 MPA Principal's Award, Co-Principals Amanda Suttie and Mike Bennett announced.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals' Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship.

Young has been an assistant ballet teacher, and a member of the Maine Department of Education Student Cabinet advocating for better mental health resources in Maine’s public schools. She has locally been involved as a member of the York School Climate and Culture Committee working to make York School Department a more inclusive environment, a volunteer for the Kittery Land Trust Nooney Farm Giving Garden, and a communications committee member for the York Ready for Climate Action working to educate the public about climate change in engaging ways.

Young and other award winners and their principals will attend an Honors Luncheon at Jeff’s Catering Center in Bangor on Saturday, April 1, at 12:30 p.m.

The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.

The Principal's Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine's school administrators.
