York listed as one of the least expensive cities in Pa., cheaper than the national average

Looking to save some money? A new report shows that York may be one the least expensive U.S. Cities to live.

The report, released by bill pay service doxo, outlines the most and least expensive big cities to live in. Additionally, doxo also has cost-of-living data for more than 4,000 cities across the U.S. For York, doxo’s data shows that the average York household pays $1,924 a month, or $23,091 a year, for the 10 most common household bills.

This makes York the 112th most expensive city in Pennsylvania, according to doxo. The commonwealth is the 29th most expensive state in the nation.

The monthly cost of living in York is 6% lower than the national average of $2,046, and 0.1% higher than the state average of $1,922.

York residents pay roughly 37% of their income on household bills, according to doxo's data. This adds up to $1,466 less in household bills each year than the national average.

When looking at individual bills, Yorkers pay around $1,217 a month for mortgages and $1,047 a month for rent. For auto loans, they pay an average of $432 a month, and they average $361 on monthly utilities.

When looking at health insurance, York residents pay around $53 monthly, around $84 a month in life insurance and they average $265 a month on auto insurance. Cable and internet costs about $119 each month, and cell service is around $111. Finally, alarm and security charges average $79 for York residents.
