York Revolution adds two new pitchers

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – The York Revolution announced they have signed right-handed pitchers Oliver Garcia and Ronny Garcia on Monday for the 2024 season.

Oliver Garcia spent the last seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. The San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic native began his professional baseball journey in 2016 with the Pirates’ Dominican Summer League affiliate.

Garcia came to the United States to join Bristol in the Appalachian League in 2018 as a starting pitcher. In 2019 Garcia moved up to Class-A Greensboro and returned again to Greensboro in 2021 as a High-A affiliate. That season he posted a career-high eight saves.

The 26-year-old spent all of last year in Double-A with Altoona, going 7-3 with a 4.27 ERA and seven saves across 41 appearances.

During his entire pro career, Garcia has allowed 239 hits in 265.1 innings and struck out 239 batters.

“I got a lot of really good reports on Oliver,” said Revolution manager Rick Forney. “His numbers are good and there’s some upside with his arm talent. The velocity is good with a good breaking ball and I think there’s some swing and miss potential in this young man’s arm. Hopefully he’ll be successful for us and get himself back to a Major League organization. There’s some history with him finishing ballgames and getting saves so I think there’s some versatility there too.”

Ronny Garcia is wrapping up six seasons with the Houston Astros farm system. The Samana, Dominican Republic native was with the Dominican Summer League affiliates for three seasons before coming to the United States in 2021. Garcia posted a 2.11 ERA that season between the Florida Complex League and Class-A Fayetteville.

In 2022 Garcia returned to both teams allowing only one run in 18.1 innings of action.

Last season Garcia played just one game with Fayetteville before being promoted to High-A Asheville. With the Tourists Garcia went 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA over 29 appearances. The 24-year-old struck out 40 hitters across 34.2 innings and grabbed a pair of saves.

Garcia’s pro career has produced nine wins, 14 saves over 122 games with a 3.42 ERA, 200 strikeouts and 170 hits in 186.2 innings.

“He’ll be a young bullpen arm for us,” Forney said. “I’m excited about him. He has really good career numbers. He’s an intriguing young pitcher. I’m hoping I can get him to be more than just a one-inning guy, maybe a bridge-type guy in the sixth or seventh inning. I’m excited to get my eyes on him.”

So far the Revolution has announced six player signing for the 2024 season. York has stated it will reveal more signings on Monday, Feb. 26.
