New York State reports record number of COVID tests: Cuomo

A record number of COVID test results — 119, 493 — were reported in New York State, Gov. Cuomo announced Friday.

The test results were reported Thursday, according to a written statement put out by the administration.

Within the state’s 20 zip codes with the highest positive rates, the percentage of people testing positive is 6.4%. The hardest-hit areas in recent days include Brooklyn, Queens, Rockland and Orange counties.

Outside of those 20 zip codes, the positive rate throughout the rest of the state is 1.03%.

“We are tracking the hot spots here on the home front, and the hot spots are a significant problem. The hot spots are Orange, Rockland, New York City and a small area in Nassau. We’ve seen the Orange, Brooklyn and hot spots go up in some zip codes and we see some spreading into a part of Queens,” Cuomo said. “That is our priority and our focus, and the Department of Health is going to have people on the ground in the hot spot zip codes today.”

The New York City Health Department reported that four coronavirus clusters in southern Brooklyn, Williamsburg, central Queens and Far Rockaway continue to be a concern. In those neighborhoods, positive rates are above 3% and make up nearly 30% of new cases citywide in the last two weeks.
