New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame accepting nominations

SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WETM) — State Senator Tom O’Mara is asking for nominations for the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame.

The New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame is an online tribute to New York State veterans’ military and civilian lives and accomplishments. Each state senator chooses one veteran from their district to be honored in the Veterans Hall of Fame, and O’Mara is asking people who live in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier Regions to nominate a veteran who has served their community after leaving the Armed Forces to represent New York’s 58th Senate District.

Nominations open for New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction

“So many veterans served our nation courageously and honorably, and then returned home to lift the lives of our local communities,” said O’Mara. “The Senate Veterans Hall of Fame is just one more way to give a local veteran a well-deserved and well-earned expression of our gratitude and admiration.”

O’Mara is accepting nomination letters until Friday, March 1. Nomination letters should have a short biography that highlights the nominee’s military service, civilian service awards, and civilian achievements. Nominations should be emailed to omara@nysenate.gov. The inductees from each district will be honored during a ceremony at the end of May.

The New York State Senate has been honoring veterans with its Veterans Hall of Fame since 2005. Every year, each state senator inducts a veteran into the hall of fame in a ceremony within their district. The inductees are also honored at ceremonies in Albany throughout the year on dates that coincide with veterans-related observances.

All Veterans Hall of Fame members can be found on the New York State Senate’s website.
