York Suburban junior represents YAIAA on all-state girls' basketball team

Pennsylvania sports writers released their all-state girls' basketball teams Thursday, and two York County players made the cut.

York Suburban junior Janay Rissmiller was named third team in Class 5A. Rissmiller was the lone YAIAA player named all-state. Christian School of York senior Linda Brown was named third team in Class 1A.

More than 80 sports writers across the state participated in the selection process.

York Suburban's Janay Rissmiller (4) gets to the basket to score on a layup during the District 3 Class 5A girls' basketball championship against Greencastle-Antrim at the Giant Center on March 2, 2023, in Derry Township. The Blue Devils won, 44-30.

A 5-foot-6 guard, Rissmiller averaged 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.1 steals for a Trojans team that finished 18-10 and made the PIAA Class 5A playoffs. Rissmiller was the top scorer and ball-handler for a team that reached the District 3 championship game for the first time in program history. Rissmiller led the Trojans with nine points in the championship loss to Greencastle-Antrim despite having the nail on one of her big toes removed less than 24 hours before the game.

A 5-foot-7 senior, Brown averaged 14 points a game for a Defenders team that finished 22-5 and reached the second round of the PIAA Class 1A playoffs.

Christian School of York's Linda Brown gets around Mount Calvary Christian's Rachel Thomas during the first quarter of the District 3 Class 1A girls' basketball championship at the Giant Center on Saturday, March 5, 2022, in Derry Township. The Defenders fell, 27-26.
