Yorktown is attracting new restaurants; see what's recently opened in town

Opportunity and a deep commitment to community are the reasons a handful of entrepreneurs chose to open three very different dining spots in Yorktown.

For Emmanuel Moya, Cliff Mascarenhas, and Errol Fernandes — who grew up in the area and still live locally — it made sense to open a tapas and tequila bar close to home.

Lisa Ocasio, who owns the Tasty Table in Ossining, said her new spot — the Tasty Table 2 in the Solaris Sports Club — is a great way to introduce what essentially is a captive audience of sports teams to her restaurant.

And for Peekskill residents Vince Autera and Evelyn Lopes, who opened Primal Bowls in the old Libby's Coffee Lounge spot, it's a chance to be more involved in a community they value.

The influx of new businesses is all part of the town's conscious effort to partner with commercial property owners to attract potential tenants, said Yorktown Town Supervisor Matt Slater. It's also shows that "Yorktown is a welcoming environment to follow your dreams."

Here's what's new.

Baroso

If the chance to try 39 different tequilas doesn't grab you, perhaps the small plates menu will. Open since June, Baroso is focused on the tapas culture, meaning you can try almost everything on the menu without over eating. Among some popular items: Tacos, seafood paella, quesadillas (with chicken, cheese, steak, shrimp or pernil), crispy fried calamari and mussels.

Baroso also offers brunch on weekends with items like tres leches pancakes, breakfast quesadillas and Fruity Pebbles-coated French Toast.

Primal Bowls

Peekskill residents Vince Autera and Evelyn Lopes opened Primal Bowls in the former Libby's Coffee Lounge spot in October. The health-minded couple (she's a cross-trainer; he's an athlete) chose Yorktown because of its values and sense of community. They also saw a market in educating customers about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and diet through their menu items, a mixture of cold-pressed juices, acai, pitaya, oatmeal and coconut smoothie bowls as well as smoothies, toasts (think avocado and with almond butter), coffees and teas. All products are made with high quality organic ingredients to fuel and optimize performance.

The Tasty Table 2

Soups, salads, wraps, açaí bowls, chili and flatbread pizza are among the items on the menu at The Tasty Table 2, an offshoot of The Tasty Table in Ossining. It opened in November. The menu has a host of grab and go paninis, soups, salads, empanadas, and smoothies which can be enjoyed at counter seats and tables overlooking the basketball court at theSolaris Sports Club. Owner Lisa Ocasio said she'll expand the menu as demand increases and she better understands her customers. And no, you don't have to be a member of Solaris to eat there or get food to go.
