Cleveland County Young Life is planning a carnival.

A Cleveland County Christian organization will be hosting its first ever carnival in March.

Cleveland County Young Life will be offering a carnival event for families and kids at the Bobby Bell Pavilion on Marion Street from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 19.

The funds raised will help support Young Life and its ministry.

“This is the first time it’s been done,” said Reid Ferguson, director of Young Life in Cleveland County.

He said the games are similar to what you would find at the fair.

The cost for entry is $5 for adults and $1 for those who are 18 and under.

Some of the games include ring toss, bobbing for apples, skee ball and bean bag toss.

There will also be food trucks available for purchase for food and snowcones. Popcorn and cotton candy are available with entry.

Ferguson said the carnival is a way to host a fun community event and celebrate the long history of Young Life in the county.

He said the ministry has been serving the county’s middle and high school students for over seven decades.

“Young Life has been here in Cleveland County for about 75 years,” Ferguson said. “There’s a long rich history of them being here in Shelby. The mission of Young Life is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their faith.”

He said volunteer leaders from Gardner-Webb University go to Crest and Shelby middle and high schools and have events.

Ferguson said they will be celebrating the organization’s 75th anniversary later this year with a banquet.
