The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) has issued a reminder that the territories under occupation will remain hazardous to civilians for an extended period. They have urged local residents to avoid visiting forests, wooded areas, fields, and places where combat operations took place.

As a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion, approximately 30% of Ukraine’s territory has been mined, an area twice the size of Austria. The Interior Ministry and DSNS anticipate that it may take up to ten years to fully clear these mined areas.

Comprehensive humanitarian demining efforts in Ukraine will cost $37.4 billion, according to the World Bank estimate. To prioritize the demining of agricultural land, $1.5 billion will need to be raised.
