Young men gifted new suits through ‘Suit Up and Show Up’ event in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)- A group of about 100 local young men were able to walk home with a new suit thanks to the 10th Annual Suit Up and Show Up event.

The retreat was hosted by Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa Bay on Friday at CareerSource Tampa Bay.

During the event, the young men were taught how to tie a tie by local community mentors before breaking out into a session to talk about their future careers.

“I feel like, in my opinion, we’re learning about how to be a man,” High School Senior Telvin Mexile said. “How to do an interview, how to open up about your emotions. “

Participants’ measurements were taken before Friday, and they were able to try on their tailored suits during the event.

High School Senior Taron McCullough decided to pick out a navy suit with a pink tie to match.

“Felt like a million dollars,” he said. “I’m going to walk in the door, chest up, head high, chin up.”

Leadership retreat speakers included former WFLA anchor Rod Carter and New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston.
