Young sisters work to raise money for family of fallen McKeesport police officer

Two young girls spent their Saturday afternoon trying to raise money for the family of fallen McKeesport police officer Sean Sluganski.

9-year-old Abigail Hall and 6-year-old Madelyn Hall spent 4 hours in Lampert’s Market in McKeesport selling blue ribbons. All of the money raised by the Hall sisters will be gifted to the Sluganski family.

This is not the first time the sisters have sold ribbons in an attempt to help a family in need.

Jan Kugler, owner of Lampert’s Market said the girls raised $2,000 for the family of Chief Justin McIntire after he was shot and killed in January.

Annette Hall, the girls’ mother, said they had the chance to meet Sluganski while they were raising money for McIntire’s family. The McKeesport officer bought a ribbon from them and thanked them for what they were doing.

Annette said when Abigial learned that Sluganski was shot and killed on Monday she quickly asked if she and her sister could begin raising money again. Her mother approved and the girls got to work.

The girls are not the only children to want to support families in need. Kugler said another group of children will be selling blue light bulbs at the store on Monday from 12-4 p.m.

Madelyn and Abigail were asking for just $2 per ribbon during their time at Lampert’s market but hope to raise as much money for the Sluganski family as they did for the McIntire family.

The family is working to find the next place to hold a sale while also juggling a busy school schedule.
