Youth and adults encouraged to participate in the Falls Library's Summer Reading Kick-Off

This summer, the Cuyahoga Falls Library plans to celebrate being "All Together Now" during this year's Summer Reading Program from May 26 to Aug. 5. Children, teens, and adults who register can participate in reading, programs, and opportunities to win weekly and grand prizes while exploring their library and community. Registration begins May 26 online at www.fallslibrary.org/srp or in person at the library.

The library will host a Summer Reading Kick-Off Party on June 2 and 3 at Cuyahoga Falls Library. Library visitors on June 2 can make a journal craft and enjoy a painting class (ages 8 and up, registration required). On June 3 the library will host indoor and outdoor activities, including a tie-dye station (those participating should bring their own white cloth item), button-making, painting class, and a special summer story time. In addition, the Rubber City Ukes will perform rain or shine on June 3 from 3-4 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to this family-friendly ukelele concert.

For students out of school, Summer Reading participation helps prevent the "summer slide" of learning loss with incentives to read and free access to educational, interactive, in-person programs. To encourage reading, children and teens will win weekly prizes, and adults may enter weekly drawings. Everyone who completes the program can enter to win grand prizes like a tablet, gift cards, free tickets to the Akron Zoo, Cuyahoga Valley Art Center classes, a family membership to the Great Lakes Science Center, and more! Plus, one lucky winner will receive a $529 CollegeAdvantage Plan, a tax-free program to help save for future college expenses.

This summer, with a Cuyahoga Falls Library card, parents and students also have free access to live tutoring from 2 p.m. to midnight daily through Tutor.com. "Tutor.com is a fantastic resource for parents and guardians looking to help their child continue learning throughout the summer or boost students' confidence in subjects where they struggle," said Danielle Welling, Marketing & PR Manager. "The Cuyahoga Falls Library is thrilled to offer this access to quality, safe tutoring from Tutor.com thanks to the Libraries Accelerating Learning grant, awarded to us by the Ohio Department of Education."

Adults also can read and explore the library's resources. From using sewing machines in the MakerSpace, to borrowing digital ebooks and audiobooks through the Libby App, or picking up seeds at the Seed Sharing Library, there's something at the library for everyone. Featured summer program topics will include painting classes, gardening and sustainability workshops from the Cuyahoga Falls Growth Initiative (a partnership between the library and the City of Cuyahoga Falls), Dungeons & Dragons groups, and more. Visit www.fallslibrary.org/calendar to view program details.
