Youth advocates decry county jail conditions

Youth advocates called the living conditions that juveniles face at the Baltimore County Detention Center shocking, and they're demanding answers. Advocates are demanding the youth be immediately transferred out of the facility. They're also pushing for the passage of legislation that would end the practice of automatically charging juveniles as adults. An investigation in 2018 found deplorable conditions. Another investigation in November 2022 by the Maryland Office of the Public Defender's Juvenile Protection Division found nothing has changed.
