Youth baseball roundup: Mitchell White splits with Brandon Valley

Jun. 1—MITCHELL — The Mitchell White 13-and-under baseball team earned a split with Brandon Valley on Tuesday, winning 7-5 and losing 5-4, in games played at Drake Field.

In Game 1, Kyson Hermann had two hits and two RBIs, while Dayton Adams drove in two runs. Avery Kaus, Denen Ellwein and Collin Weier each had an RBI. Lincoln Bottom was the winning pitcher for Mitchell, with four innings pitched, three hits, five runs (three earned) and a strikeout. Lincoln Stange worked two innings of relief with two strikeouts for Mitchell.

In the second game, Mitchell had three hits and three errors. Braydon Reindl, Mason Bartscher and Lincoln Stange each had a hit, with Reindl driving in a run. Mitchell had 10 stolen bases, with three for Stange, two for Stratton Zens and Denen Ellwein. Dawson Smith was the starting pitcher with four innings pitched, five hits allowed, five runs (two earned) and three strikeouts.

Mitchell White (2-4) will be back on the field this weekend for Mitchell's home teener baseball tournament on Friday and Saturday at Cadwell Park and Drake Field.

BRANDON, S.D. — The Mitchell Black 14-and-under teener baseball team was on the tough end of a pair of losses on Tuesday in baseball action at Brandon Valley, falling 6-3 and 4-3.

In Game 1, Brandon Valley had a late surge to win the game, scoring two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to break a 2-all tie. Tyler Christensen was the losing pitcher for Mitchell, allowing three runs on two hits in 4 1/3 innings and nine strikeouts, with Van Johnson working in relief to record five outs, while allowing three runs and striking out two. Jaxson Hartman, Jacob Ebert and Brennen Penne each had a hit for Mitchell Black, while Hartman, Christensen and Kendan Skinner each scored a run.

In Game 2, Brandon Valley's Jackson Burns had a two-run RBI single to flip the game in their favor and walk off winners. Dawson Jonnassen threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out four. Gavin Jones took the loss in relief, allowing two hits and an earned run. Van Johnson had two hits and an RBI for Mitchell Black, while Tyler Christensen had a double and an RBI.

Mitchell Black (0-6) is back in action on Friday at the MItchell teener baseball tournament.

SIOUX FALLS — A pair of five-run innings helped Sioux Falls East team to a win over the Mitchell Post 18 Junior Legion on Tuesday by an 11-1 score in six innings.

For Mitchell, Connor Singrey, Conor Matke and Tyler Sanderson each had a hit for the Juniors, with Singrey plating the lone run in the second inning. Gavin Soukup took the loss on the mound, allowing four hits, five runs and striking out five in four innings of work.

Ryan Hirsch had three hits for Sioux Falls East, while Sawyer Mindt had three RBIs in the game. Lincoln Vasgaard, and Chase DuBois also each drove in two runs, while Kooper Perry was the winning pitcher with two hits and one run allowed with six strikeouts in four innings of work.

Mitchell (1-2) is in action next at the Harrisburg Tournament starting Friday, June 3.
