Youth violinist from Adrian to perform as soloist with orchestra in Ohio

A Lenawee Christian School student will be one of four guest violin soloists who will perform next month with an Ohio orchestra.
The Firelands Symphony Orchestra's Feb. 4 concert will feature Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” with Yuki Nakamura, an 11th grader at LCS, and three other student violinists. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. at the Sawmill Creek Convention Center in Huron, Ohio.
Nakamura began her studies on the violin at the age of 3, a news release from the FSO said, studying the Suzuki method in Aichi, Japan. Her current teacher, Jillienne Bowers of Adrian, plays in the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
This past year, Nakamura was one of the finalists for the Sherer International Violin and Piano Competition, an annual music competition named in honor of the late Lon and Kathryn Sherer, professors emeritus of music at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. The competition is open to classically trained violinists and pianists in eighth through 12th grades.
The concert is to open with Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” one of his most notables works, the release said. The piece is comprised of four violin concertos representing each of the four seasons.
“In them, Vivaldi uses music to represent flowing creeks, singing birds, a shepherd and his barking dog, buzzing flies, storms, drunken dancers, hunting parties, frozen landscapes and warm winter fires,” the release said.
Nakamura will perform the solo for Summer. Freya Klaas from Ottawa Hills, Ohio, High School will perform Spring; Shaker Heights, Ohio, High School student Elizabeth Huang will perform the solo for Autumn; and Anthony Yang, Cleveland Institute of Music pre-college student, will perform the solo for Winter.
The evening of music will continue with other recognized pieces for string orchestras: Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Biber’s “Battalia à 10,” and Holst's “St. Paul's Suite.”
