YouTube TV could begin the baseball season without the league’s channel, MLB Network, in its lineup.

YouTube TV informed its customers via email Tuesday night that they’d reached an impasse with baseball’s flagship station for carriage.

Their agreement with MLB Network expired Jan. 31. YTTV customers will lose access to all programming in their recordings in their personal libraries.

This may not be that inconvenient for baseball fans right now. However, with spring training opening league wide next month and Opening Day soon to follow, it could be problematic if the impasse lasts too long.

The long lead time to the start of the season may offer hope, however. The two entities are still talking, according to reports, and if they are unable to reach a deal in time for the start of the season, MLB games will still be available through other channels in the YTTV lineup such as FOX, ESPN and TBS.

Carriage issues are no longer the surprise they once were in the pay television landscape, the fact the side are still talking certainly bode well for a deal eventually coming to fruition.
