YouTuber Buys Robotic Exoskeleton to Wield Cloud’s ‘Buster Sword’

Allen Pan, a YouTuber behind the channel Sufficiently Advanced and a former contestant of “Mythbusters: The Search,” used his COVID-19 stimulus checks to buy a robotic exoskeleton so he could wield a giant sword. In his video posted on March 5, Pan went to his friend and asked him if he could make him Cloud Strife's Buster Sword from the “Final Fantasy VII” games, according to AV Club.

Although the sword weighs about 50 pounds, Pan and his crew had difficulty picking it up and handling it. He explains that the distribution of weight makes the sword about three times heavier than it already is in foot-pounds of torque. As a solution, Pan decided to buy a second-hand camera-stabilizing exoskeleton for $900. He tried using the modified equipment on the two Hulk fists he previously made, which weighed 35 pounds each. To his surprise, the exoskeleton made it much easier for him to lift the lead fists. Pan managed to lift the sword with the help of a bungee chord he installed at the back of his exoskeleton. He was able to lift the sword up and even lower it in a slow, slashing motion. Even though he can finally use the sword to smash things or stab through a TV, Pan admitted it is still difficult to lift it. Feature Image via Allen Pan - Sufficiently Advanced
