You've Got to See This Lavender-Filled Village in Turkey
Flower-filled travel has taken over the entirety of our bucket lists this year: cherry blossoms in Washington D.C., tulips in the Netherlands, and baby blue eyes flowers and whimsical wisteria tunnels in Japan have made our editors rethink how they'll be spending their vacation days. It's time to add another adventure onto our plethora of fantasy getaways-a village in Turkey that's overflowing with gorgeous purple lavender.
Located in Turkey's Isparta Provence, a tiny village called Kuyucak is slowly bringing in visitors with its lush fields of lavender-perfect for those looking for an original Instagram post (what, aren't we all?). One of Travel + Leisure's advisors, Engin Kadaster, said this lavender phenomenon was actually kind of an accident.
“The interesting thing about this village is that whole area is the center of our rose production,” Kadaster told T+L. “One of the rose farmers brought some lavender stalks from France, like 20 of them. They started with very little. And then the villagers started to plant it...This is an extension of rose growth to lavender growth.”
These lavender fields are currently blooming and will be until June, but the flowering herb hits its peak in July.
Kuyucak is located in Turkey's lake region, and is still sort of an unknown destination to travelers. Book your trips now before the lavender fields are taken over with flower tourists-and soon!
