It's the question U.S. gymnastics fans have been asking for months.

Will Trinity Thomas come back for a fifth year at the University of Florida?

The reigning NCAA all-around champ finally gave her answer Monday night during an interview segment of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards broadcast.

"I will be returning for my fifth year at the University of Florida," Thomas said when asked about her future plans. "I just started my master's in health education and behavior."

She followed up that announcement with an "I'm back" Instagram post at midnight Tuesday.

Thomas was one of three finalists for the Honda Cup, which goes to the country's top collegiate female student athlete. The award went to NCAA basketball player of the year Aliyah Boston, who led the University of South Carolina to its second national championship.

It was no secret that Thomas, a West York Area High School graduate, was going back for a graduate degree at Florida. But when asked after the national championships about other plans, she avoided discussing a possible fifth year.

At that time, her focus was on graduation and an extended stay on a beach somewhere warm. Her Instagram account shows she enjoyed both.

Friends and fans were quick to jump on her Instagram announcement, congratulating her on the decision. To one she replied, "Last year, best year, right?"

If that's the case, be prepared for the gymnastics world to be set on its ear in 2023, because this past season will be tough to top.

  • She was the all-around winner at every postseason meet: SEC conference championship, NCAA second round, NCAA regional final, NCAA semifinal and NCAA final.

  • She also won NCAA titles in floor exercise and bars.

  • She tied the NCAA meet record of 39.8125 in the individual final and equaled the second-highest score, 39.8625, in the team final.

  • She owns all of the top five all-around scores of the season: 39.90, 39.875, 39.8625, 39.85 and 39.825.

  • She scored four consecutive perfect scores in the floor exercise in the postseason.

  • She's the only gymnast to be named All-American first team on every apparatus and all-around.

  • She received 12 perfect scores in the season, second-highest in history, bringing her career total to 20. She is No. 7 all-time among NCAA gymnasts.

  • She not only completed a career Gym Slam (perfect score on each apparatus), she also posted a Season Slam.

  • She owns the record for event wins in a season with 39: nine vault and floor; eight all-around; seven bars and six beam. She is the Florida leader with 113 career event wins.

With this list of accomplishments, the logical question would be: What's left for her to do?

That answer is easy. Lead Florida to a national team title. The Gators finished second in 2022.
