Yuengling, America's oldest brewery, to begin distributing in Kansas early next year

America's oldest brewery, Yuengling, announced Wednesday that it will begin distributing product to Kansas in early 2023. Missouri and Oklahoma have also been added to the brewery's distribution list.

"These states are home to passionate fans, loyal beer drinks and great partners," Wendy Yuengling, a sixth generation Yuengling family member, said in an announcement video posted to social media. "We're looking forward to bringing the goods to fans across these states."

Yuengling is based in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, but two other breweries are located in Mill Creek, Pennsylvania and Tampa, Florida. In August 2021, Yuengling products became available throughout Texas.

Nearly 200 years old, D.G. Yuengling & Sons was founded by German immigrant David G. Yuengling in 1829. One of the reasons Yuengling chose Pottsville was because of its proximity to natural spring water. Spring water is ideal for brewing German-style beers, Jennifer Yuengling explains in an informational video on the brewery's website.

When the brewery was built, electricity was not yet invented, so caves were dug underneath to age the beer. Finished in 1941 after 10 years of hand digging, the caves remain today. Tours of the caves are available, between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Yuengling's original brews are the Lord Chesterfield Ale and Dark Brewed Porter, which continue to be brewed today. According to the Yuengling website, the Lord Chesterfield Ale is crafted in two stages, utilizing both conventional kettle hopping and dry hopping after fermentation, resulting in a dry, sharp finish. The Dark Brewed Porter includes nodes of caramel and dark roasted malts. Both the ale and porter are available year round.

In 2014, the sixth generation of Yuenglings began to manage the family business.
