Actor and San Luis Obispo County native Zac Efron is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Efron will be honored on Monday, Dec. 11, in a livestreamed ceremony that includes appearances by director Sean Durkin and actors Jeremy Allen White and Miles Teller, the Hollywood Walk of Fame said on its website.

Efron’s star will be the 2,767th one added to the Walk of Fame, which recognizes accomplishments in movies, music and other fields.

Who is Zac Efron?

Efron, who turned 36 in October, first found fame as a teenager starring in Disney’s “High School Musical” movies.

He appeared in productions with local theater companies before making the jump to Hollywood.

His credits as an actor range from “17 Again,” “The Greatest Showman” and “Baywatch” to “The Lucky One” and “ Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.” He also starred in the popular “Neighbors” movies.

Most recently, Efron appeared in the movies “Gold,” “Firestarter” and “The Greatest Beer Run Ever.”

His latest film, “The Iron Claw,” stars Efron as a member of the real-life Von Erich family of professional wrestlers.

Efron appears alongside White, best known as the star of TV’s “The Bear,” and “Triangle of Sadness” actor Harris Dickinson. The movie opens in theaters on Dec. 2

What are actor’s ties to Central Coast?

Zac Efron was born in San Luis Obispo and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School.

As a young actor, he appeared in productions at the Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville in Oceano and PCPA-Pacific Conservatory Theatre in Santa Maria.

Efron has spoken in the past about his local roots, telling The Tribune in 2017 that “The Central Coast made me who I am.”

What is the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame consists of more than 2,765 terrazzo-and-brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along parts of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.

Stars are awarded by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and serve as monuments to achievement in various fields of the entertainment industry.

According to the Hollywood Walk of Fame website, those fields include motion pictures, television, radio, recording, live theater or performance and sports entertainment.

“Efron will be honored with his star in the category of Motion Pictures,” the Hollywood Walk of Fame said Monday in a Facebook post.

Recent Hollywood Walk of Fame honorees include actor Macaulay Culkin, director John Waters and musicians Gwen Stefani and Darius Rucker.

How to watch Zac Efron’s Walk of Fame star ceremony

Efron’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be unveiled at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 11 at 6426 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, according to the Hollywood Walk of Fame site.

The event will presided over by Marc Malkin, Variety magazine’s senior editor of culture and events.
