‘Home Improvement’ actor Zachery Ty Bryan arrested for DUI

HOLLYWOOD – Zachery Ty Bryan, famous for his role in the ’90s sitcom “Home Improvement,” was arrested over the weekend in Riverside County.

It all happened on Feb. 17 shortly after 2 a.m.

“Deputies assigned to the La Quinta Sheriff’s Station conducted a traffic stop in the area of Washington Street and Calle Tampico in La Quinta on a vehicle suspected of being involved in a recent traffic collision,” according to Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. “When deputies contacted the driver, they observed indications of impairment, leading to the driver’s arrest for driving under the influence with priors.”

The driver was later identified as 42-year-old Zachery Ty Bryan. He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, according to the county’s inmate information database.

He was booked on DUI with priors, which is a felony. He was also booked on the misdemeanor of contempt of court.

Bail was set at $50,000 for the DUI and $15,000 for the contempt of court charge.

Records show Bryan made bail later on Saturday.

He’s due back in court on April 23 at the Indio Larson Justice Center.

This arrest is the latest in a string of legal troubles for the former child actor.

On July 31, 2023, Bryan was arrested in Lane County, Oregon, for alleged domestic violence, robbery and harassment charges, according to KTLA 5’s sister station KOIN.

“The defendant, on or about July 22, 2023, in Lane County, Oregon, did unlawfully and recklessly cause physical injury to [the victim],” court documents filed by the Lane County District Attorney’s Office state. “The State further alleges that the foregoing crime constituted domestic violence.”

He was later released, according to Entertainment Weekly.

He faced similar charges in October 2020, when he was arrested in Lane County for assault, menacing, harassment, coercion, strangulation and interference with making a report following a fight with his girlfriend, police said. While most of these charges were dropped, Bryan ultimately pleaded guilty to assault and menacing charges in 2021 and was sentenced to 36 months of probation and fined $200.

He talked about the arrest to The Hollywood Reporter in June of 2023.

“At the end of the day, (the police) throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something,” he told the outlet. “I could’ve fought it … but that’s more stress and drama. I got two misdemeanors and called it a day.”

From 1991 to 1999, Bryan played the role of Brad Taylor in the Tim Allen-led sitcom “Home Improvement.”

Throughout the years, he appeared in 2006’s “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and 2009’s “Thor: Hammer of the Gods.”

According to IMDB, his latest work was in 2022’s “The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!)”
