After fans and cast members marked the two-year anniversary of the 2017 release of Justice League last year with the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign on social media, it was recently confirmed that the director's extended version of the film will be released on the HBO Max streaming platform. Snyder left production on the movie following the death of his daughter, leading to multiple rewrites and reshoots, leaving fans clamoring to see his original vision.

This week, Snyder tweeted that a certain supervillain from the comic books, whom many suspected to have played a role in the original script for Justice League, will in fact be making an appearance in the extended cut. That's right, Darkseid is coming to HBO Max, and Snyder just shared a glimpse of the infamous bad guy.

Darkseid's arrival was foreshadowed all the way back in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, when Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) says: "He's coming. The bell has been rung." In the comics, Darkseid is one of the New Gods, along with his uncle Steppenwolf (who functioned as the primary antagonist of the cinematic cut of Justice League). He is known as the God of Evil, and considered to be one of the most powerful beings in DC mythology.

Darkseid is played in Justice League by Ray Porter, an actor whose screen credits include TV shows Justified, Sons of Anarchy, CSI and The Mentalist. His next project is another ambitious adaptation of a beloved DC Comics property; the Audible Original based on Neil Gaiman's The Sandman saga.

The character of Darkseid is slated to make another appearance in the DC Extended Universe in Ava DuVernay's upcoming New Gods film.
