Zack's Bar And Grille In Stonington To Close In December
STONINGTON, CT — A Stonington restaurant will become the latest to close due to the pandemic, according to The Day. Zack's Bar and Grille will be closing at the end of business on Dec. 31.
The restaurant opened in 2004. Owners Lynn and Zack Tsagarakis have a 40-year history in the business. The two met in the 1970s working at Steak Loft and ran The Fisherman Restaurant in Noank from 1990 to 2002, The Day Reported.
Originally, they planned to keep Zack's open until September 2021 when the liquor license expired, as Lynn Tsagarakis would then be the age when she'd like to retire. However, COVID-19 changed that plan.
"During our 40 years in business, we have seen numerous ups and downs in the economy and in people's spending habits," the owners wrote on Facebook. "When you are young, you have plenty of time to recover from the down times. When you are older you don't have that luxury."
"I think we will be well into 2021 (or longer) before the recovery process begins, which would take us past our target date for riding off into the sunset. Thus the decision to pull the plug a little early.
"Let me emphasize how much we appreciate your continued support over the last 16 years, and especially over the last nine months. It's been fun!"
The bar and grille will continue operating as normal until Dec. 31.
