Zane State offering new manufacturing certificates

ZANESVILLE – The Ohio Semiconductor Collaboration Network unveiled the state’s new semiconductor manufacturing curriculum.

Designed to stand alone or as part of a degree program, students will have the skills to secure entry-level employment needed for this new industry. While the full details are still being finalized, students interested can still enroll this fall in Zane State College’s manufacturing certificates.

Below are highlights of manufacturing certificate offerings:

Integrated manufacturing certificate

As the manufacturing industry rapidly evolves, current and up-to-date skills are essential for a successful career. ZSC has resources and tools ready for you - from computer software and technology to hydraulics and pneumatics. Understanding work/life balance is important to Integrated Manufacturing Technology Certificate students. Classes are scheduled only two days a week, which allows students to work on their days off. Upon completion, students will earn a college certificate and be eligible to test for Certified Production Technician (CPT) and Certified Production Technician Plus (CPT+) industry certifications. Salaries for those with this certificate is around $59,000 a year.

Advanced integrated manufacturing certificate

From robotics to consumer goods, advanced manufacturing is changing how items are made. High-impact careers in advanced manufacturing combine electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science. Advanced Manufacturing Technology Certificate students learn adaptability in production processes, machine components, 3D machine operations, semiconductor manufacturing processes and more. The manufacturing industry will have 115,000 new jobs in the U.S. over the next ten years. According to the Zanesville Times Recorder, Intel alone needs 3,000 employees, 2,000 of which must be technicians. ZSC Advanced Manufacturing Certificate Program will provide students with the perspective and adaptability they need that hiring managers will be looking for.

Drinking water/wastewater technology certificate

Designed for busy working adults, coursework takes only one year, with classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for this new program.

Level I Water Technician Certificate:• Developed for the incumbent worker wanting to upskill within this industry or be eligible for other positions within the business.• Prepares learners for the Level I Wastewater and Drinking Water certification exams.• Includes the OSHA 30-hour credential and the Department of Transportation's Transportation of Hazardous Materials credential within this certificate program.

The Level II Water Operator Certificate:• Developed for learners seeking positions within the growing manufacturing, technology, semiconductor industries, industrial sites and manufacturing plants.• Includes the HAZWOPER certification and gain beginner-level experience with GIS software, among other essential skills.

Zane State College is working toward becoming a test site for the Level I Wastewater and Drinking Water operator license exams. The goal is to offer other levels of each designation in the future. Upon completing the year-long certificate program, your employees will earn the OSHA general industry safety (OSHA 30) certification with confidence and preparation to take the Ohio EPA Class 1 Operator tests for Drinking Water and Wastewater (two separate credentials).
