Zanesville Community Theatre seeking donations to repair deteriorating wall

ZANESVILLE − Zanesville Community Theatre is seeking donations for restoration of a back wall.

Estimation from a contractor in October was $30,900. Continued deterioration of the back wall will compromise the historic structure, the ZCT said in a press release. An influx of moisture will continue to damage costuming and may lead to increased mold.

The ZCT said this project must be done before it pursues other capital projects such as replacement of seating and stage lighting.

These projects are all part of the Setting the Stage for Growth drive that started in May 2017 and is set to run through the fall of 2028. The goal of the initiative is to raise funds for preservation and comprehensive capital improvements of the existing facility.

ZCT is the oldest continuously operating theater in the area and is housed in an 1900s structure in the McIntire Terrace Historic District. The building was originally constructed as a synagogue. The organization was founded in 1963 and produces five to seven productions annually.

One-time donations can be made online through tix.com. Recurring donations can be made through the Muskingum County Community Foundation. Donations can also be mailed to the Muskingum County Community Foundation, 534 Putnam Ave., Zanesville, OH 43701.
