At night, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) lost power from the main external power line with a voltage of 750 kV.

Quote: "On 4 July, at 1:21, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost power from the main external power line with a voltage of 750 kV," he said.

After that, ZNPP had to switch to the only available 330 kV backup line, which was repaired and reconnected to the station only on 1 July, after being damaged four months ago.

Background:

  • Before the beginning of the full-scale war in February 2022, four 750 kV lines led to ZNPP, the International Atomic Energy Agency specified.

  • On 1 July, for the first time in months, Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant managed to connect to the only available backup power line.

  • On 30 June, the Defence Intelligence reported that the Russian occupiers were "reducing their presence" at the captured Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Ukrainian intelligence specified that the Russian military recommended the evacuation of personnel who signed contracts with Rosatom – they must leave by 5 July, and the "preferred direction of evacuation" is the territory of occupied Crimea.

  • The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence Kyrylo Budanov also said that Russian troops additionally mined the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
