Zeeland East sweeps OK Green track finals; Zeeland West, West Ottawa 2nd at conference

The Zeeland East boys and girls track and field teams swept the OK Green Conference championships on Friday at Mona Shores.

The Zeeland East boys won with 196 points, just ahead of Zeeland West (188.5), followed by Mona Shores (62), Muskegon (54), Holland (43), Reeths-Puffer (41), Grand Rapids Union (17) and Wyoming (8.5).

The Zeeland East girls won with 233 points, ahead of Zeeland West (154), Mona Shores (82), Holland (71), Reeths-Puffer (34), Muskegon (27), Union (8) and Wyoming (2).

The boys meet was expected to be a duel between the Chix and Dux.

Zeeland East's Caden Meyer won the 3,200 meters (10:10.42) and took second in the 800 (2:02.49) and the 1,600 (4:33.29). He was part of the winning 4x800 relay (8:13.57).

The Chix went 1-2-3 in the shot put with Aidan Taylor (52-10), Tag Bonnema (48-11) and Parker Williams (48-3 1/2) and also in the discus with Taylor (162-3), Garrett Weeden (146-0) and Bonnema (144-4).

Zeeland East's Charlie Drnek (6-0) and Nick Riemersma (6-0) went 1-2 in the high jump with Drnek taking fewer leaps to reach the height. Drnek also won the pole vault (12-0). Riemersma was second in the 400 (51.95).

Zeeland West's Skyler Geurink won the 400 meters (50.85) and took second in the 200 meters (22.78). Isaac Hondorp was third in the 400 (52.17). Chase Holwerda took third in the 800 (2:02.71) and 1,600 (4:36.89). Carson Hauch was third in the 3,200 (10:17.08).

Spencer Therrian (40.22 and 15.41) and Trevor Wallar (41.17 and 15.61) went 1-2 in the 300 hurdles and 2-3 in the 110 hurdles for the Dux.

The Dux won the 4x200 relay with Xander Goodrich, Josh Kroll, Parker Holman and Geurink finishing in 1:30.79. Colton Ruster, Hondorp, Therrian and Wallar won the 4x400 (3:31.61).

Zeeland West's Mateo Quintanilla (11-6) and Nathan Golding (11-0) went 2-3 in the pole vault.

Holland's Levi Honderd was second in the long jump (20-10 1/2) and was fourth in the 100 (11.36).

In the girls meet, Zeeland East's Payton Heer (16.58), Brynn Blanton (17.35) and Kat Wilson (18.54) went 1-2-3 in the 100 hurdles.

Zeeland East's Allison Kuzma won the 1,600 (5:16.22) and 3,200 (11:31.28).

Paige Westra won the shot put (37-4) and the discus (117-7).

East's Allie DeLost (12.91) and Ily Watson (13.15) went 2-3 in the 100 meters. Watson also took second in the 200 (27.34). Hannah Nienhuis won the pole vault (9-6). Rylee Sluiter was third (9-0). Katie Post was second in the 800 (2:30.49). Wilson took third in the 300 hurdles (53.27). Mariah Sackett took third in the discus (109-6). Heer (5-2) and Reilly Zegunis (5-0) took 2-3 in the high jump. Mirra Fenlon was second in the long jump (16-0).

The Chix won the 4x100 relay behind Watson, Rachel Miller, Maria Martin and DeLost (50.50.

Zeeland West's Abby Winn won the 400 meters (1:02.87), going 1-2 with Greta Hondorp (1:03.57). Bella Hoffer won the 800 (2:20.06) and was second in the 1,600 (5:32.04).

West's Lee Ramirez was second in the discus (113-1). Lindsey Peterson took second in the 300 hurdles (52.12) and pole vault (9-6). Avari Peddie took third in the 200 (27.68). Isabel Assink was third in the shot put (34-2 1/2).

The Dux won the 4x200 with Elysia Alejandro, Peddie, Winn and Peterson (1:48.46). Peddie, Hondorp, Wells and Winn won the 4x400 (4:19.27). Hoffer, Hondorp, Wells and Roark won the 4x800 (9:54.85).

Holland's Eva Whiteman won the 300 hurdles (49.67) and the high jump (5-4). Alisa Mason was second in the 3,200 (12:26.42) and third in the 1,600 (5:32.21).

OK RED

Panthers take second

The West Ottawa girls track and field team finished second at the OK Red Conference championship meet on Friday.

The Panthers took second with 137.5 points, finishing behind Rockford (190). and ahead of East Kentwood (137) and the rest of the field.

The West Ottawa boys finished fifth (85). East Kentwood won with 138.

In the girls meet, West Ottawa's Arianne Olson won the 800 meters (2:18.41). Helen Sachs was third (2:19.23). Olson (4:58.23) and Sachs (5:01.73) went 1-2 in the 1,600 and 1-2 in the 3,200 with Olson crossing in 11:27.69 and Sachs in 11:32.26. Teammate Abby Green was third (11:42.39) and Sophie Bonnema was fourth (11:46.56).

Kaia Denhof, Bonnema, Sachs and Olson won the 4x800 relay (9:20.39).

Natalie Blake (11-9) and Kayla Hintz (11-6) went 1-2 in the pole vault.

Megan Postma was third in the 400 (59.34).

In the boys meet, West Ottawa's Ruben Esparza was second in the 200 meters (23.41). Carston Cole was second in the 3,200 (9:34.14). Isaac Easter took second in the 300 hurdles (39.51) and long jump (21-4). Lucas Lesher took second in the discus (143-1).

OK BLUE

Maroons take third

The Holland Christian boys track and field team finished third at the OK Blue Conference championships on Friday.

The Maroons scored 93 points to finish behind Allendale (128.5) and Hudsonville Unity Christian (117.5) and ahead of Spring Lake (90), Coopersville (75), Hamilton (73), Fruitport (42) and Grand Rapids West Catholic (42).

Hamilton's girls team finished fourth with 105, behind Allendale (124), Spring Lake (118) and Unity Christian (111.5). West Catholic was fifth (88.5), followed by Holland Christian (72), Coopersville (26) and Fruitport (15).

Holland Christian's Parker Lambers won the 800 meters (1:58.80) and was second in the 1,600 (4:29.48). Aidan Brinks won the 3,200 (10:21.75) and Will Engbers was third (10:25.95). Landon Culver was second in the 400 meters (51.46). Parker Fenton, Culver, Austin Brinks and Lambers won the 4x800 relay (8:11.35).

Hamilton's Eagan Tamminga won the shot put (51-5 1/2). Owen Alderink finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.35) and third in the 300 hurdles (40.70). Max VanHuis took second in the 3,200 (10:25.48). Jeremy Mathews finished third in the pole vault (12-6).

In the girls meet, Hamilton's Jeralyn Hoppes won the 110 hurdles (16.57) and 300 hurdles (48.85).

Mila Tasma won the discus (114-6) going 1-2 with Aliyah Springer (105 1 1/2). Springer took second in the shot put (34-5) and Tasma was third (33-1).

Stella Kotowski took second in the 100 meters (13.33). Trina Farris finished third in the 3,200 (12:47.59).

Holland Christian's Samara Brinks won the shot put (34-7). Sarah Schloff took third in the 800 (2:34.11) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:48.26). Abby Baas was third in the 300 hurdles (50.45).
