HOLLAND — Small businesses often seek to fill a need, and Caring Home Cleaners is no exception.

Business owners, and sisters-in-law, Megan Volkers and Brianna McKinnon spotted the need for more cleaners after the COVID-19 pandemic forced residents to spend more time at home.

"We'd been noticing a lot of people were looking for cleaners," Volkers said. "A lot of cleaners coming from Grand Rapids didn't want to make the drive anymore."

"We both wanted to get away from the jobs we were in," McKinnon added. "We wanted to be our own bosses and get more into customer service and helping people. The before-and-after or transformation photos, that was a passion and a hobby."

And thus, Caring Home Cleaners was born.

"We started in January," Volkers said. "And we provide pretty much whatever people need. We've mostly been cleaning houses, but we'll be starting a few rental houses in June, and we're open to businesses, too."

Caring Home Cleaners launched along the lakeshore in January, seeking to fill a need with residents spending more time in their homes.

The duo have gotten significant business from work-from-home employees.

"I'd say about half of our clients work from home," Volkers said. "We'll go during the day, and they'll leave their office for lunch, and we'll clean then. It's very convenient for them."

The sisters were born and raised, for the most part, in Zeeland, and are looking forward to watching their business grow.

“Many of us carry around the mental load of wondering when we’re going to have time to clean our home,” the pair said in a release. “Our goal is to give individuals more time to do the things they love and relax at home – without thinking they should be cleaning."
