Bisexual actor Zelda Williams is ready to hop behind the camera for her directorial debut, the horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein.

Set in the 1980s, the film follows an unpopular high schooler who reanimates a handsome Victorian corpse accidentally during a lightning storm. With the use of a broken tanning bed in her garage, she begins to turn him into the man of her dreams. Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (Riverdale) are set to star and the script was penned by Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body). Filming begins this summer.

Williams shared her excitement for the upcoming project on Twitter. “I know Hollywood gets a bad rep for regurgitating sequels and remakes and reboots over and over and over… and yeah, it totally does that!” she wrote. “But it’s also finally letting me make the most bonkers, wonderful zombie script I’ve ever read, and for that, I will be forever grateful!”

As it turns out, Williams had been planning to direct prior to this, but fate intervened. “I had three films fall apart before this because movies often do,” she shared. “It was discouraging, to say the least. But the fact this one survived and THRIVED to be my first? A f*cking gift.”

Williams, who is an out and proud bisexual, shared the importance of being visible in a 2016 interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I think it’s everyone’s choice in how open they want to be or not,” she said. “For me, there’s a lot of erasure of bisexuality. I think a lot of people — especially in women — tend to have really bad responses to it. They think you can’t have a monogamous relationship. By the way, it doesn’t really matter if you want to be not-monogamous or not. Your sexuality doesn’t really dictate that. Being bisexual doesn’t mean I’m suddenly willy-nilly running around.”

“I speak openly about it because I think there are a lot of people who don’t hear anyone saying it enough, or if they do they hear them, getting a lot of crap for it and I don’t really take s**t,” she added.
