Zelensky calls on G7 leaders to do whatever it takes to finish war by year’s end

He was speaking during a private video conference with the leaders of the G7 nations during the group’s summit in Germany, reports Le Monde citing AFP sources.
According to Zelensky, if the war stretches all the way to winter, it then might take even more time and go on much longer than is expected.

Ukraine’s president asked the G7 leaders for support, and the political action needed to finish the war by the year’s end. Among possible measures to do this, Zelensky named additional sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Earlier media reports said Zelensky had asked the G7 countries for more air defense systems, more sanctions against Russia, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
An official press release by the Presidential Office doesn’t mention any specific timeline on ending the war, but reiterates the message about security guarantees that Ukraine needs.
The G7 summit is taking place in Bavaria, southern region in Germany.
During event, G7 leaders issued a statement pledging to provide as much long-term support for Ukraine as would be needed to protect the country from Russia’s invasion.
Moreover, several G7 countries agreed to block trading in Russian gold, while an official embargo on this economic sanction is expected on June 28. Annually, Russia sells abroad $19 billion worth of gold.

Today, June 27, is the 123rd day of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which started in the early hours on Feb. 24. The invaders tried to establish control over Ukraine’s north, south and east, heavily using artillery and killing many people in the civil population.
So far, the Russian army is focused on increasing its territorial gains in the Donbas, while keeping its control over Kherson Oblast and part of Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
The Ukrainian army is conducting successful counter-advances in the south and in the north-east, including in Kharkiv Oblast, while in the Donbas area battlefield situation remains extremely difficult for Ukraine.
